Hot rollers are a hair styling tool used to create curls. There are a number of different styles of hot rollers, but they all work in the same basic way, setting curls which can range from gentle waves to tight ringlets. Many stores which carry beauty supplies and hair accessories stock hot rollers in a variety of sizes, and they are relatively easy to use, although it can take some trial and error at home before achieving a look you are satisfied with.
Most hot rollers fit into an electric tray with heating elements which is plugged in shortly before use. To use them, hair is prepared and then carefully segmented into chunks which are rolled around individual rollers. When preparing hair for hot rollers, the most important thing to remember is that the hair needs to be totally dry, or the curls will not set. The rollers are left in until completely cool, and then carefully removed. For a firmer curl, some people put hot rollers in at night and sleep on them.
A hair curling iron or hair tong is a tool used to change the structure of the hair using heat.
There are three general kinds:
- curling irons ~ used to make the hair curly
- straightening irons ~ used to straighten the hair
- crimping irons ~ used to create crimps of the desired size in the hair.
Relative comparison of the two hair curling tools are given in the below:
Waiting for the curling iron and hot rollers both take time, but hot rollers may take slightly longer.
Both curling irons and hot rollers come in many sizes, from 3/8-inch for soft, tight curls through 2-inch for smooth waves. For choices in size, heated rollers are ideal because a typical set yields many different sizes.
Hot rollers are very convenient; you can set your hair and enjoy a leisurely breakfast or prepare for your day without feeling rushed. With a curling iron, you are a prisoner of the cord, and it forces you to stay in front of the mirror. However, curling irons take up less closet space and are easier to pack for traveling.
Curling iron gives great flexibility for choosing between loose spirals and tight ringlets, but one can always brush out his/her curls formed by hot rollers to achieve the style (s)/he desires.
Curling irons are much easier to transport when traveling and staying in a hotel or other location away from home.
Apart from their all utility of these two beauty appliances there are some cautious step is necessary. Never use hot rollers or a curling iron on wet hair; it can cause the hair to become frizzy, brittle or result in a steam burn of your locks.
