Shalene Brooks is a cool experimental hair model from California. Her styles are sharp and definitely different from what is out there. She not afraid of cuts, colors, or styles.
What is your name?
Where are you from?
What is your style now?
Pretty much a mohawk. Very short sides and I am in the process of growing out the middle part of my hair, which is curly. I pull the front forward which turns it into this very curly bang. In the back, I usually put it into a low pony tail or french braid it.
What hair products do you use to maintain it?
When I want my hair curly, I use Garnier Fructis Leave-In Conditioning Cream and also a little bit of regular hair conditioner, whatever I have that’s lying around. I also like to use Garnier Fructis Style Curl Sculpting Gel. That’s about it. When I want it straight, I straighten it with Thermasilk Heat Protection Spray Then use a dime size of Black & Beautiful Organic Carrot Gro and Palmers Coconut Oil Moisture Gro
and some gloss spray.
Do you have a stylists, if so, who are they and located?
No stylists, but I do go to Jovance Barbering and get my sides and designs cut by Brad.

Please give us your brief hairstory, your journey of hairstyles?
Well, this a long one, I had long semi curly hair up until about High school, which is also when I learned you could buy hair dye at Target. Bad decision. I went hair crazy and bleached my whole head ending up with golden blonde hair. When I got tired of that I went on to every color in the rainbow from turquoise to purple, to pink and green. Always re-bleaching and never listening to anyone telling me “Your hair feels like a broomstick!” I finally got bored with dying my hair but instead decided that I wanted big voluminous curly hair and got it permed.
Although I liked it, my hair really fried up. So I made a bold move and chopped it all off into a bob and dyed it jet black. I liked the look but it wasn’t me. I attempted to grow it out but got stopped sooner than I thought. I needed a trim so I went to Great Clips since it was so cheap and I figured they wouldn’t be doing too much cutting anyway; WRONG. When I looked in that mirror I had a MULLET. I was devastated! I wouldn’t even go outside. I thought to myself, “Well, I was bald when I was a baby, maybe it wouldn’t look so bad now.” I went to Salon Manaz in Richmond, CA and waited 4 hours to get my hair cut by Tony, whom many of my friends said he was a great stylist. And that he was! He gave me a super short Rihanna like cut. I loved it! I played around with it and dyed half of my hair cheetah print which lasted two weeks before it grew out.
SO once again I got bored. (lol)
I was at home with my older sister, who is always the one helping me dye and cut my hair, and said “Lets cut my hair off.” She got my dads clippers and sure enough she shaved my sides off! Now this, I absolutely loved. It was a little messy so I went to the barbers and got it cleaned up and ever since then I’ve stuck with this look, changing it up a little with different designs now and then but this is for sure my permanent look!
