We can get stuck in a functional rut. It is easier to stick to a routine than to venture out on something new that looks great on the model in the hair magazine, but may look totally different if you try it. Still, for those who may prefer going with a style they know works it is a stretch to move from the comfort zone of a style we know works.

Looking at some pictures that land on social media for Throw Back Thursday some people have not changed their style in twenty or thirty years. “If it works why change it?” we say. But really, wearing the same style for decades can age us.

If you are reluctant to venture out there are options. Ask for recommendations from women who have styles you find attractive and get contact information on the stylist. Call up and ask for a consultation. A good stylist will meet with you and consider the state of your hair, shape of your face, and the styles you favor. You will need to consider upkeep and how often you can come in for maintenance.

You will need to consider if a slow transition is better than a drastic cut or color. Although it a little glam can go a long way. Choose a style that works with your budget. If you’ve been hitting the salon before special events and a new style will mean showing up for weekly or bi-weekly appointments, consider your time and wallet.

A new style and changing up from your normal look, can be a real treat.
