Stylist Circle 15 Questions: Nina Rene | Vissa Studios

Stylist Name: Nene, based in New York City and Metro Areas

How long have you been in the hair industry?
I have been in the industry for 6 yrs

What sparked your interest & what keeps you intrigued today?
the excitement of doing my own hair fueled my interest to pursuit cosmetology also my High School offered the program for free.

Describe your most bizarre hair experience.
My most bizzare hair experience was applying a relaxer on a over dramatic 10 year old. She cried and wailed and begged the lord for forgiveness funny thing is i barely applied and any relaxer into her hair and she wasnt burning. Come to find out in the past she had some pretty bad experiences so when ever someone touches her head and tries to comb it she has these flashbacks of pain.

Where are you originally from?
I was born in the Bronx, New York but i am of St. Lucian heritage.

Is there anybody in particular you wish to work with or alongside?
I would love to work with Michele Obama, Wendy Williams and Lady Gaga.

Do you have any idols or role models?
My mother is my idol

Have you had any celebrity clientele or wish to go that road?
Yes, I would love to have celebrity clientele…so they can dish some dirt lol

Where do you see your business in 5 years? Any long-term goals?
In 5yrs i see myself owning my own shop and possibly venturing in othe avenues of the hair industry

Any hair secrets? Tips? Tricks?
Thinning areas and bald spot maybe signs of internal disorders
Buy wig clips and sew them onto your hair tracks its a wonderful quick weave, inexpensive, and custom.
Women who have recently had babies should continue to take their vitamins. Sometimes the hair starts to thin if adequate nutrients arent taken in.

What are the ultimate thing black women should do for their hair to keep healthy or to grow healthy.
Have a full assessment of your hair by a knowledgable stylist or trichologist. Beware of NO-LYE relaxers.

Stylist Circle: DeeDee

Stylist Circle: DeeDee

Stylist Name: DeeDee, based in New York City and Metro Areas

How long have you been in the hair industry? I have been doing hair for about 11 years now, since I was around 12. I began working in a salon maybe 4 years ago

What sparked your interest & what keeps you intrigued today? I have a lot of hair. I began by doing my own hair and fell in love ever since. I used to do extravagant braiding in my own head and would get asked about it so much in school, I became known for doing hair. Then came the neighborhood clientele. Hair is so versatile, it brings forth confidence, personality, and speaks without the person having to say a word!

Describe your most bizarre hair experience. My most bizzare hair experience was probably when my hair caught on fire in February! (HA!) So embarassing, I had to cut off nearly 6 inches on one side and had to even it all after.

Where are you originally from? I was born in Jamaica, WI.

Is there anybody in particular you wish to work with or alongside? I would love to work with the greats in the well known companies, Fekkai, Paul Mitchell(they are amazing), Redken(colors are to die for) and many many more..Noogie Thai from Paul Mitchell is a hair architectural genius.
Do you have any idols or role models? In terms of hair, I love all talented professionals. You have to love it to succeed, and that is in anything you do. I take things from everyone..whether it be in local salons all the way up to techniques I learn in hair conventions. As far as generally, Bob Marley is my role model. Generically speaking, the message of overcoming adversity, never compromising your beliefs is one I live by.

Have you had any celebrity clientele or wish to go that road? I haven’t had any celebrity clientele(yet) but I did get an opportunity to get complimented on my work and to give my card as I worked alongside a radio personality. The most I would say is having worked with agency models on editorial shoots.
Where do you see your business in 5 years? Any long-term goals? I work freelance for now but in the near future, I see myself managing a team of underground amazing hair stylists, travelling all over the world to do hair for Fashion week, and many other huge events.

Any hair secrets?  Everyones hair is different, so my best advice is to know YOUR hair and avoid heat and over processing as much as possible to lessen damage.

You can reach D’Andra William at williamsdandra@yahoo.com  and is currently located in Queens NYC and can travel to you.
